How much will a website cost?
This will depend on a number of factors, but basically the cost will generally relate to the amount of work involved in building the site, for example a brochure site with five pages will cost significantly less than an online shop. For a guide to coast see our website page
How long will a website take to build?
The time to complete a site is dependent on a number of factors. Generally we break the construction of a website into the following phases
The consultation phase - finding out the scope and requirements of the site and mapping out the site pages and how they all fit together 1 day to 2 weeks
The Design phase - Designing a site template, menu systems - 2 days to 1 month
The Development phase - Developing and integrating Shopping carts, Forums, message boards etc. - 1 week - 2 months
Site population phase - Populating the site with content 1 day - 1 month
What information do I have to supply?
You will need to supply us with content for the site, this is generally text and images for the pages, if you are unsure about what to say on each page you can provide us with an outline and we can have a copy writer put together the text for you.
Can I change the website myself?
Yes, if you have a content management system on the site or if you have web editing software such as dream weaver.
Once I have my website how much will it cost to make changes to the site?

Domain names
What is a domain name?
A domain name is simply the online address for your company that people can type into a browser address bar to go to your website, for example www.uisonline.co.uk.
Do I need a domain name to have a website?
As a domain name is the address of your site then you will need one to have a site hosted on our servers.
How much will a domain name cost me?
Domain names vary depending on their type. For more information on the cost of domain names see our domain name page.
When I register a domain name with UIS who will own the domain name?
When you register a domain name with UIS you will own the domain name and UIS will be the Administrative and technical contact for the domain name unless you request otherwise
When I register a domain name do I own it forever?
Domain names are registered for contract periods or 1 or 2 years. We will renew your domain name for you at the end of each contract period and bill you accordingly unless you inform us that you no longer wish to own the domain name
I have a domain name registered with another company can I use this for a website?
Yes we can arrange for the domain name to be transferred into our care or you can leave the domain name with the current provider and then we can point the domain name to our servers.
Hosting
What is web hosting?
Hosting is the provision of space and services for your website, in the same way you may rent and office to house your business you buy hosting services to house your website.
How much hosting space do I need?
This depends on the size of your website and associated files and databases, you can always increase the amount of space on our servers should you find that you site has grown.
If I use UIS to build my website do I have to use their hosting?
No, but we offer 1 years free Bronze hosting with your site when we build it so why not try us for a year and then if you decide to go somewhere else then we will help you transfer your site.
What is a mail box?
This is the location where E-mail is stored, each mail box is associated with an E-mail address, for example enquires@uisonline.co.uk . You can decide what the E-mail addresses associated with your mail boxes are.
What is webmail ?
Webmail is a program that will allow you to read your E-mail on the internet. Gmail and Hotmail are webmail programs.
What is POP3?
POP3 Stands for Post Office Protocol 3 and is standard protocol for receiving E-mail. E-mail is received and held for you on an internet server, periodically you use an E-mail client such as Outlook or Thunderbird to download any mail from the server to your computer.
